Whitefish Bulldog Baseball Drops a Pair to Open Season

The Whitefish High School Bulldog Baseball team was in Polson over the weekend, to open the season.

The Dawgs would play a pair of games over the weekend, taking on the defending State Champions, Polson Pirates, on Friday.

On Saturday, they would take on Belgrade.

Friday's opening day contest, against Polson, saw the Dawgs face the Pirates in a State Championship re-match.

Whitefish would strike first in the top of the 2nd as Ryan Conklin brought in CJ Thew on an RBI single.

Polson would answer right back plating 1 in the bottom half of the inning.

In the third, the Dawgs got the bats going in the third as Christian Schwaderer and Tait Orme would belt back-to-back doubles. Orme's being an RBI Double. Michael Miller would then take his turn with an RBI double to give Whitefish the 3-1 advantage.

Polson would once again have an answer as they put up a 10-piece in the third to take an 11-3 lead.

That was to much for the Dawgs to overcome. Whitefish would score another 5-runs over the next three innings but the Pirates answered each time as Whitefish fell in the opener 15-8.

On Saturday, the Dawgs would face off against Belgrade, in Polson.

Belgrade had the upper hand from the beginning scoring 6-runs in the first and led wire-to-wire. The Dawgs would fall by a final of 15-1.

While the scoreboard might not quite show the whole story, there was a lot to like from the Dawgs.

CJ Thew earned the OrthoRehab Player of the Game for his performance against Polson. Thew was 2-3 at the plate with a 2B, 2R, RBI, SB.

Other Dawgs with notable stat lines include:

Ryan Conklin tallying 3 hits over the 2 games.

Tait Orme with 5 hits total, 3-4 on day1 and 2-2 on day 2.

Brady Howke had a trio of base knocks.

Drew Queen went 1-2 both days.

The Dawgs officially begin the season 0-2.
