Whitefish Basketball Closes Tip-Off Tournament Play in Havre

Both Whitefish High School Basketball teams would close out early season Tournament play in Havre over the Weekend at the Havre Holiday Showdown.

The Whitefish Boys Basketball team would split their contests in Havre, falling to the host Blue Ponies by a final of 64-46. The Dawgs bounced back on Saturday, picking up a hard earned bounce back win against Custer County, 54-50.

Starting off with a look at Saturday's action. Head coach of the Dawgs, Alex Gonzalez was looking for a response from his team and had to like how things ended. The Dawgs would trail early in this one falling behind, 16-11, after the 1st quarter against Custer County. The Cowboys would push their lead to 10 at one point in the 1st half but Whitefish battled back. After a quick run and a made 3-pointer by Dane Hunt to beat the halftime buzzer the Bulldogs found themselves down three, 29-26, at the half.

The Bulldogs flipped the script in the 3rd quarter using feisty defense and efficient offense to take the lead after the 3rd frame, 42-37.

The 4th quarter was a hard fought 8 minutes as both teams exchanged blows all quarter but in the end Whitefish held on late thanks to a Mason Kelch clutch free throw.

Meanwhile, the Whitefish girls would fall in both of their contests over the weekend. The Lady Dawgs lost to Havre by a final of 57-29. The girls would then fall on Saturday, against Custer County, 57-18.

Following all the weekends action the boys team now sits at 3-2 on the season. The girls are 2-3.
